Mannarkkad
(also known as Mannarghat) is a small town in Palakkad district of Kerala
state, south India. It is the head quarters of Mannarkkad Taluk. It is situated
at a distance of 40 km from the district head quarters, at the north east end
of the district, on the way to Kozhikkode(NH213) and on the foots of Western
Ghats. Silent Valley (a tropical evergreen rain forest with an unbroken
evolutionary history of 50 million years) is only 66 km from Mannarkkad.

situated on the northeastern side of the district of Palakkad and extend over
an area of 827 sq. kms has the chief tribal settlement. Located 38 kms from
Mannakkad, the place consists of frequently hilly highland terrain, fed by the
tributaries of the River Cauvery. An extensive mountain valley above the crest
of the Ghat ranges with numerous rivulets of the Bhavani River, Attapady is
occupied mainly by tribes and some settlers from Tamil Nadu.

Siruvani
is 46 km north of Mannarkad and 48 km from Palakkad. The Siruvani Project is in
Sholayur Panchayath.The gateways on either side of the road across across the
dam are typical of the Kerala and Tamil architectural styles. Siruvani is also
home to certain tribals like the Mudugars and Irulars. The dam is surrounded by
reserve forests. The distance from Edakkurissi to Siruvani Dam is 22 kms. The
scenic beauty of Siruvani is simply enchanting. Muthikulam hill is situated on
the eastern side of the dam. There is a natural water fall in the hill.

Meenvallam
A
Meenvallam waterfall is around 8kms from Thuppanad junction on the Palakkad-
Manarkkad route. It is a combination of enchanting beauty and scenic splendor.
The water falls from nearly 20 to 25 feet and the depth is around 15-20 feet.
There are 10 steps of waterfalls of which eight are situated in the upper hills
inside the dense forest. They are inaccessible, only the remaining two steps
are accessible. One has to hire a jeep from Koomankund junction and then trek a
distance of 1.5 km by crossing the river Thuppanad. The ten step waterfall with
the height of each step varying from five to fourty metres provide a visual
treat to the beholder

Panamkurussikavu
Pooram is the festival celebrated in association with the Panamkurussikavu
temple. The temple is located at Mannarkkad taluk in Palakkad District. The
presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Bhagavati.The festivities last for
eight days starting from the Makayiram asterism of the Malayalam month Meenam
(March-April). The 6th and the 7th days are called Valiyarattu and Pooram. On
the sixth day, the goddess is bathed in the temple pond. There are many folk
arts such as Thayampaka Melam, and other classical dances such as Kathakali or
devotional dance called 'Bale' conducted the whole night. On the final day
(Pooram day), the Vela procession starts from Chethallur Srikrishna Temple,
Pulikkal Sivakshetram and Srikrishna Kshetram of Vellinezhi. Mambra Desam,
Mankuzhi Vela, Thekkan Vela, Thazhekode Vela join at the temple compound in the
evening. The main attraction is the Panchavadyam, Melam, Shingari Melam,
Kumbhattam, Thara Vesham, and Poothana Vesham along with 30 caparisoned
elephants lined accordingly. Devotees and other people throng the temple in
large numbers to watch this ceremony. The pooram concludes with the holy bath
in the adjacent river (Arattu kadavu) on the eighth day.
